Bucks, Berks & Oxon Group Visit to Burnham Abbey

Registration is closed for this event
A rare opportunity to visit the historic site and Grade I-listed buildings of Burnham Abbey, one of the best surviving medieval religious houses in Buckinghamshire.

Friday 8 November, 12.30 - 3.30pm

Join the Bucks, Berks & Oxon Group as we take advantage of a rare opportunity to visit the historic site and Grade I-listed buildings of Burnham Abbey, one of the best surviving medieval religious houses in Buckinghamshire.

The site has until recently been occupied by the Sisters of the Society of the Precious Blood, who have given us their permission for this visit.

We will be shown round by Duncan McCallum, Chair of SPAB’s Board of Trustees, who has been involved with the site for some time, and Mark Johnson who has been looking after the site for many years.

As well as exploring the main site, we will also look at the large 18th century barn, a section of 16th century boundary wall with bee boles and an 18th century granary.

The property is currently on the market though Estate Agent, Knight Frank.

You will need

Please wear suitable clothing and footwear, taking into account the property has been vacant for some months.

Accessibility

This visit will involve significant periods of standing and walking. The interior has some steps (although most of the key spaces are at ground floor level). The grounds are well-maintained but there are some uneven surfaces and slippery paths.
