The mill was built in 1784 at the start of the first industrial revolution and has continued to evolve and be part of local community life ever since, commencing as a water powered cotton mill, as innovations in technology changed it progressed through flax and then wool production until in the midle of the 19th century it moved onto become a sawmill.

National Mills Weekend 2023: Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th May
The mill will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 10am – 4pm for guided tours on the hour, with the last tour each day commencing at 3pm. Tours cost £5 per Adult, under 18s enter FREE.
Additional Information:
Starting life with a huge waterwheel, the mill progressed to turbine power in 1879 and now has 3 turbines in situ. The mill retains most of its historic woodworking machinery and thanks to the efforts of our volunteers, some of these are once again functional.
