We are delighted to announce our 2020 SPAB Scholars and Fellows.

Every year a group of architects, surveyors, engineers, and craftspeople are picked for our prestigious training schemes. Over six to nine months they will gain hands-on experience of building conservation, travelling across the country to learn from  building specialists and craftspeople working in traditional ways.

Former SPAB Scholars and Fellows are among the today’s leading UK conservation experts, caring for many of the most significant buildings in the UK and abroad.

Our 2020 Scholars are: Lucy Newport, structural engineer; Amy Redman, architect; and Libby Watts, architect.

Our 2020 Fellows are: Oliver Barton Beatson, carpenter; Thomas Taylor, bell founder and conservator; Thomas Skinner, builder; and Toby Stalley-Slater, carpenter, who will also be undertaking millwright training.

The talented group will begin their programme of site and workshop visits across the UK on 23 March.

We would be delighted to hear of any building conservation projects on site between April - September 2020 that may be interesting for our Scholars and Fellows to visit. Please email Pip Soodeen & Catharine Bull with any suggestions, or if you would be happy to host them: philippa.soodeen@spab.org.uk; catharine.bull@spab.org.uk

Read more about the schemes and make a donation to support our work.

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year's programme has beeen suspended and will resume in 2021.
