As part of our ongoing outreach work, we recently welcomed first-year Interior Design students from London Metropolitan University School of Art, Architecture and Design. For their 'Legacy Project', the students have been tasked with reimagining parts of our head office at Spital Square, incorporating SPAB’s ethos and history into their designs.

On recent visits, students photographed the ground and first floors of the building, as well as the committee room and courtyard spaces. To develop a fuller picture of this historic space, students also examined old photographs of the building and interior, and sketched architectural details under the supervision of an artist.

Matthew Slocombe, director of the SPAB, visited the students on campus in November and delivered a presentation about the SPAB and the history of 37 Spital Square. Matthew also spoke about the renovation project in the 1980s, as well as the more recent projects to upgrade the building.

Below is an early example of student work to redesign a large window on the first floor. A second intake of students has since visited and we look forward to sharing more about the project as it unfolds.
