We heard with great sadness that Stephen Treasure, long-time supporter of the SPAB's Scholars' and Fellows' programmes recently passed away. Many SPAB Scholars and Fellows will remember Stephen from hosting fascinating visits or trying to cross his pond in a coracle.

Stephen's traditional building company, Treasure & Son, has enjoyed over 250 years of continuous trading and is a family business in the widest sense of the word. Stephen's projects included Warwick Castle and Ludlow Castle.

He was always willing to give his time to Scholars and Fellows, hosting them annually, but also mentoring Fellows who wanted to learn more about the business approach to projects. Stephen held the programmes in high regard and would often say how reassured he was knowing that he was working with a Scholar or Fellow on site. Visits with Stephen and Treasure & Son always ranked very highly in the list of 'best visit' at the end of the programmes. His enthusiasm and generosity over the years has buoyed the SPAB and strengthened the Scholarship and Fellowship programmes.

Our thoughts are with his family, Lucy, Rob and Tom. As a church service is not currently possible, the family has decided to celebrate Stephen's life with an open-air service held on the pitches at Ludlow Rugby Club on 2pm Tuesday 29th June. Further details and information about a live streaming of the occasion are available from Pip Soodeen: philippa.soodeen@spab.org.uk
