SPAB Audience Survey – FAQs

SPAB Audience Survey – FAQs

I’ve received an invitation to take part in a SPAB survey – why have I received this?

If you've received an invitation by email, it is because you are one of our existing supporters – perhaps you’re a current or previous member, are subscribed to one of our mailing lists, have previously attended one of our courses or events, have voted for one of our Awards, or have rung our technical advice line.

You might also have been sent the link to the survey via social media or by one of our friends in the sector.

No matter how you’ve been in touch with us before, we’d love to know your thoughts and views on the SPAB and on historic building conservation.

Please only complete the survey once. If you already had the invitation via email, there's no need to also click on the link when you see it on social media. However, we would really appreciate your help getting the word out, so please like and share any social media posts you see about the survey.

What is the survey all about?

We’re keen to learn more about our audiences, what you think of our work, and your views on historic buildings in general.

Some of the questions in the survey are about you, some are about the SPAB, and some are about building conservation or sustainability more generally.

How will this research be used?

The survey is part of a wider audience insight project that will help to shape the SPAB’s work for the next few years. With limited resources, we need your input to make sure we’re focusing on the right areas and being as effective as we can in our work to protect old buildings.

We’re working with external consultants for this project. The SPAB won’t see individual answers – we’ll use the aggregated data to learn more about our audiences and understand your views and opinions better.

Your individual response won’t be used to contact you for sales or marketing. You might hear from us if you opt in to take part in the next phase of our research.

Will you share the results?

We won’t share individual responses with anyone else – we won’t even see them ourselves. However, we look forward to sharing some of the highlights from this research with you in the new year.

How will the voucher winners be chosen?

When you complete the survey, you'll have the opportunity to enter a prize draw for one of four One4All vouchers worth £50 or £100 (or the equivalent in Euros). These are eligible at a wide range of retailers.

Our consultants will use a random number generator to choose the winners of the £100 and £50 prizes from the eligible submissions. We’ll be in touch to let the winners know that they’ve won in early 2023.

If you’d like to be entered for the prize draw, please make sure you add your email address at the end of the survey.

How will you protect my personal data?

The audience research is conducted by an independent agency who have undertaken to protect your personal data. Any information that you give will not be used to contact you in the future. The SPAB will not be able to see your individual responses, only aggregated views across the survey. Personal data you give us in this survey will be used purely for the survey and the prize draw. It will then be deleted 6 months after the survey closes. SPAB Privacy Notice

I don’t want to take part in the survey, how do I opt out?

We’d really welcome your input if you have time to give it.

However, if you've been sent an email invitation and prefer not to respond, you can opt out of receiving further reminders about the survey using the SmartSurvey opt-out link at the bottom of your email invite.

If you’d like to change how the SPAB communicates with you via email, please use this webform or email membership@spab.org.uk to let us know how you prefer to hear from us.

I have more questions about the survey, who do I contact?

We’d love to hear from you if you have questions – please email Lucy at membership@spab.org.uk
