Event details

Cove Harbour is managed for local fishing, and over the years a lot of subtle repair work has been undertaken to the harbour area.  The most notable recent work, still incomplete, has been the lime grouting of the end of the Boyne Pier.  This was in danger of collapse and therefore of losing the harbour and the beach.  A special grout has been devised with assistance from Masons Mortars and a grant from HES, and work continues during 2021.

We will be joined by architect Ben Tindall, who has worked at Cove for many years, and he will explain the strategy and technical challenges of this work.  Ben is an expert in conservation, and saved Cove from development.  He also founded SPAB Scotland 25 years ago, so we are delighted that he is able to contribute to our celebrations this year.

The time of the visit has been chosen to suit the tides to enable us to view the full extent of the pier. If time permits and the group is keen, other masonry and pointing work can be viewed and discussed.

Requirements:
This is an outdoor visit to the coast.  The visit will take place during LOW TIDE, and involves a short walk along a rough track down to the harbour, follwed by walking/standing on the beach.  Please wear wellingtons or other suitable footwear, and dress appropriately for the Scottish weather!

The visit will take place on Friday 8th October 2021
10am - meet at Cove public car park
10.20 - LOW TIDE & discussion of the works
12 noon - finish

Places Available
Tickets are limited to 15 to allow for easy discussion amongst the group.

Event registration closes on Tuesday 5th October, 5pm.
