Mystery surrounds this Grade 11* former Hall House. Building of the Solar commenced in 1333, but when the owner died in the Black Death in 1348 it would appear that nothing more happened for nearly a century, when the main hall and South West Service Wing were then added.
Intriguingly, the adjacent Chapel of Ease was built some two centuries earlier, with Church records showing that it was paid for by the owner of the ‘stone house next door’. This suggests that there was an important building on the same or similar footprint of the existing ruin in the early 12 century.
The nearest eateries are 4 miles away in Bridgnorth, or 6 miles away in Much Wenlock, so ‘bring your own’ lunch is the best option. Tea/coffee will be provided.
Mid-afternoon will be a much shorter visit to Ouseley Barns, with tea and cake provided and the opportunity to tour the garden.
Dafydd Jenkins, the owner of Aston Eyre Hall, and Duncan James, architectural historian, will be the guides.
Places are £22 per person.
