Event details

Join the London Group for an exclusive after-hours tour of the atmospheric Highgate Cemetery, led by an experienced guide.
The cemetery opened in 1839 and and covers a largely wooded hilly area of winding paths between gravestones, monuments and mausoleums. We’ll discover all about its history, see its surprising and flamboyant architectural styles, and find out the stories of some of its famous occupants including Karl Marx.
You will need
We’ll be walking around outdoors, so please wear sturdy footwear and bring a raincoat or sunhat depending on the weather.
How to get there
We recommend taking the tube to Archway station (Highgate station is a much longer walk!). Take the Highgate Hill exit and either walk or take the 143 bus two stops to Waterlow Park. It’s then a five-minute stroll through Waterlow Park to the gates of Highgate Cemetery. Please allow half an hour to get from Archway station to the entrance.
If you’re cycling, you can leave your bike on the bike rack outside the West Cemetery gates.
There is no car park. There are no parking restrictions in place when we’re visiting, but there is limited on-street parking in the area. Please note there is no access to Swain’s Lane from the north.
Accessibility
This visit will involve significant periods of standing, walking on uneven surfaces and potentially slippery paths (if it’s been raining).
