Event details
Saturday 9 November, 10.45am - 1pm
Join the Essex Group on a visit to a fascinating historic house, not usually open to the public. Our first visit to Bridge Farm on 5 October is fully subscribed with a long waiting list. Consequently, we have managed to arrange a second visit on 9 November.
Bridge Farm, located on the outskirts of Tolleshunt d’Arcy, was bought recently by Julia Barnes after years of neglect.
The house has now been stripped of modern “improvements" and is an excellent example of a vernacular building in the throes of conservation and conversion into a liveable home.
Julia and her partner have conducted extensive research on the property's history and on appropriate materials and conservation techniques.
The visit will include a talk from Julia about the history of the building, followed by a tour of the building in its stripped-down state.
The visit is open to SPAB members and their guests only.
You will need
Please wear sturdy footwear and clothing you don’t mind getting dirty.
Lunch is not included but there are several good pubs and a tea room serving lunches within a short drive.
