Join the SPAB Devon, Dorset and Hampshire Groups for a great day exploring the Avon Tyrrell Estate, including a look at a remarkable Grade I-listed church with connections to WIlliam Morris.

All Saints Church, Burley Road, Thorney Hill, Bransgore.
Set back from the road, the church of All Saints, Grade I-listed, is a remarkable example of Edwardian Baroque designed 1905 by architect Detmar Blow, a close friend of William Morris. It contains work by Eric Gill and a notable mural on the east wall in memory of Lady Manners painted in 1922 by Phoebe Anna Traquair.

Avon Tyrrell House
Built in 1891 for 3rd Baron Manners. Grade I-listed, it was the first commission given by Norman Shaw to his Chief Clerk, Barnstaple born and trained, William Lethaby, who as a close friend of William Morris and Philip Webb, soon became involved in The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. Designed as a calendar house, with 365 windows, 52 rooms, 12 chimneys, 7 external doors and 4 wings it is the last to be built in Britain. In 1946 the 4th Lord Manners gave the house to a charitable trust and is still the centre for "UKYouth" a national youth work charity and activity centre.
