A day with Ben Law, the renowned Sussex-based woodsman, eco-builder and tutor, at his base in Prickly Nut Wood half way between Lickfold and Lodsworth, near Midhurst in West Sussex.
Ben was famously on Grand Designs a few years ago which showed his woodland house being built. He has written several books since then, runs courses on woodcraft and is an eco-builder and supplier of sustainable timber products.
Please note, much of the day will be spent outside, so bring suitable footwear for rough terrain. Long trousers are recommended.
Please bring a packed lunch as there are no facilities.
Itinerary:
10-00 Arrive, tea/coffee
10-30 Woodland walk explaining history past and current management practices, markets and craft uses.
13-00 Lunch (bring pack lunch, tea and coffee will be provided)
14-00 Introduction to roundwood timber framing, techniques, jointing, look at example buildings on site and end with looking at the woodland house.
16-00 Leave site
About the Sussex Regional Group
The Sussex Group is run by a committee of five, with Simon Clark as main organiser and Ashley Brown, Duncan Philips, Bob Overton-Hart and Jonathan Cerowski all also organising events and performing various roles. The current committee has by and large served since 2014, and all live in Sussex but liberally spread across both West and East. The Group’s approach is to put on an event monthly between Easter and autumn each year.
