Building Visit: The Ridge, Dunbar
Building Visit: Black Bull Close, Dunbar
Free. Pre-booking essential.
Event details
Booking will close on 12 September, 6pm.
Join SPAB Scotland on a free visit to Black Bull Close, The Ridge Foundations' superb example of how built heritage can be combined with social enterprise, resulting in the rescue of an abandoned 18th-century building behind Dunbar High Street. Black Bull Close was awarded the SPAB Sustainable Heritage Award in 2022.
Together we’ll find out more about how Black Bull Close came into being, how the buildings have been repaired. The Ridge Foundations is supporting the local community by providing high quality training in traditional skills, and supported employment for those who would otherwise struggle to access or sustain either.
We’re looking forward to showing our members around this wonderful building and celebrating the people who have brought it into active use. This special visit is part of the East Lothian Archaeology and Heritage Fortnight.
If you book and then find you can no longer attend, please let us know so that those on the waiting list can be notified.
Our guides
The Ridge Foundations' Director of Construction Kevin McClure will be our guide, along with Roger Curtis of Historic Environment Scotland.
Roger was part of the judging panel for the Sustainability Award at the SPAB Heritage Awards. He will give his personal insights into why The Ridge was chosen as the winner.

About SPAB Scotland
Members of the SPAB living and working in Scotland decided to form their own semi-autonomous group in 1995. Scotland has its own building traditions, architectural language and property laws, all of which are best dealt with locally. All members of the SPAB residing in Scotland are automatically members of SPAB Scotland.
