Kent & Surrey Group visit to the Old House Project
Tuesday 18 February
10.30 – 1pm
SPAB purchased this important grade II* property in 2018 with the intention of demonstrating conservation and repair techniques. It had been unoccupied for many years and was in poor condition. The building started life as a chapel and priests' lodging associated with Boxley Abbey. It was converted into a house in the 16th or 17th century when it was extended and altered, followed by a series of 19th century alterations and additions.
The property has now been conserved and will be sold by the Society. Alterations and conservation techniques have been used that are worth discussion with the project manager, Jonny Garlick, who has kindly agreed to conduct the visit.
This is a wonderful opportunity to see SPAB conservation philosophy being successfully adopted to bring an unused historic building back into use.
