Event details

Join the Sussex Group on a visit to Lewes Friends Meeting House to see the results of an important retrofit and upgrade project.

This Georgian building has been extended over the years to serve the growing community. It recently went through a series of upgrades to make it fit for modern needs, including tackling accessibility issues, damp ingress and noise issues between residents flat and community rooms.

Quakers are committed to the values of simplicity, equality, stewardship and community and these are all reflected in the scheme, which was highly commended in the Community and Public category from Sussex Heritage Trust.

Jo Saady, the conservation architect on the project, will conduct a tour of the building and give a talk on this important piece of work combining heritage and sustainability.

The talk will go over the works to look at how natural materials and new energy systems were used to increase the thermal performance of the building, resulting in a beautiful light entrance unifying all the rooms, and providing accessibility for all.

Tea and coffee will be provided in the new foyer.
