Date 26 August 2021.

Time 3pm

Meet at the college lodge Turl Street Oxford

Look round the College and tour of Chapel around 4 pm

Hosted by our BBO group, this is another “opportunity of a lifetime” to see the interior of the chapel from a “bird cage” internal scaffold which has been erected to carry out relighting and heating works.

Mark Sutton Vane have designed new lighting to replace that which has been in situ for over 50 years. This is being undertaken by the college’s electrical contractor The Oxford Electrical Company. The scaffold will enable a close-up view of the wonderful panelled ceiling recently regilded by Alan Lamb’s team from Swan Farm Studios and to see the East window recently cleaned and protectively double glazed by York Glaziers using the same techniques as at York minster.

As space is somewhat limited we must regretfully limit numbers to 20 people.

Do be aware that this trip involves climbing ladders to reach the upper deck of the scaffold and suitable shoes and attire is needed. Hard hats should be available but if you have your own do please bring it!

The college is closed to visitors at this time and so we will have a private viewing of some of the college buildings including the magnificent dining hall recently conserved and cleaned, again by Alan Lamb’s team.

Unfortunately we cannot offer refreshments as the college kitchens are closed for the recess but there are plenty of nearby cafes and some are in the wonderful covered market which is only a few meters away and well worth a visit if not seen before.

A donation to funds would very much be appreciated and it will be strictly “first come first served” in allocating numbers.

There is very limited parking in Oxford and what there is ..is pretty expensive, but the Westgate offers the best value of an expensive bunch and is a 10 min walk to the college. Park and Ride is good and the train station is a 15 min walk to the college.

Multiple bookings

As long as there is space on the event, we usually allow you to book for both yourself and a guest. When completing the booking form, you will be asked to select the number of people and put in your own details on the first page, then to put in your second person's details on the next page. The event fee shown on each of these pages is for the individual person - you will be shown the total amount due once you get to the summary page.

About the Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, and Oxfordshire Regional Group

The BBO group organises seminars, talks and visits to buildings of interest, trying where possible to add value by arranging access to places not normally open to the public. We also visit buildings undergoing repair so members can see the work in progress and discuss with artisans and conservators their techniques, approach and materials.
