Saturday 24 August, 10am - 4pm
Join us for a hands-on day learning about lime mortars and their importance in historical buildings.
There will be talks followed by practical sessions led by bricklayer Tracy Brindley, with an opportunity to have a go at mixing lime mortars, raking out and repointing with lime mortar.
There will also be a talk and site tour of recent works to the Grade II listed stable block where surveyor Simon Hollis and architect Chris Hill have been working to create an energy efficient retrofit to the Grade II listed building.
Lunch and tea and coffee will be provided. Please indicate any dietary requirements on the booking form.
You will need
Please bring your own Site Safety Boots. All other PPE will be provided (high vis, gloves and glasses), although you are welcome to bring your own.
How to get there
The address is Whiteley Woods OAC, Common Lane, Sheffield S11 7TG.
The nearest bus stop is Ringinglow Road / Knowle Lane serviced by no. 88. From Sheffield station, you can take the peak line no. 218 and then no. 88 to site.
Parking is available on site. Please contact the group if you need a lift to site from the station and we will try to organise car shares where possible.
Accessibility
This visit will involve significant periods of standing and walking, sometimes on uneven surfaces. Lunch is provided and we can cater for dietary requirements if indicated on the booking form.
